I will preface this by saying it took me a year and a half to read this book. It is a non-fiction book presented in a novelist style.
My feelings after finally finishing are relief... but also appreciation. Because of the historical nature of the book I did enjoy knowing the things I learned, it just took me a long time to finish.
The first 70% of the book was a lot of names, dates, facts, evens, architecture... cool things that I appreciate, but that aren't particularly captivating to me.
The last 30-ish% of the book was much more exciting and I read that part rather quickly.
I don't have any particularly awesome quotes or feelings. Just overall, it wasn't what I expected. I had heard pretty good things about the book and I was less impressed.
Glad to be done. I have built up a long list of books I want to read over the past year and a half of waiting and forcing myself to finish.
